Allotment and Gardening
Why is gardening so beneficial?
- It develops skills like co-operation, self-confidence, love of nature, reasoning and discovery.
- It encourages physical activity and promotes responsibility and care for living things.
- It teaches about the growth process, the environment and the food we eat.
Our School Allotment
Last spring we created a school allotment with a raised bed for each class to take ownership of. The children then decided what they would like to grow, planned out their bed and planted their seedlings. Throughout the summer term they watered and tended their crops and were able to start harvesting their fruit and vegetables before the summer holidays.
